MISSION

ASPETE's General Department of Education provides the pedagogical education subjects which are integrated in the curriculum of the School's Technological Departments. It also provides programmes of (a) pedagogical training, and (b) further training or specialization, intended for qualified or prospective teachers, as well as (c) joint postgraduate programmes in cooperation with Higher Education Institutions in Greece or abroad.

To meet its mission, the Department comprises the following Sectors:

• Sector of Pedagogical Education Subjects (for ASPETE's Technological Departments)
• Sector of Pedagogical Training Programmes (for qualified or prospective teachers)
• Sector of Further Training and Specialization Programmes (for qualified or prospective teachers)

ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURE

ASPETE's General Department of Education is run by the Department's Council. The Council is presided by the Department's Head and comprises three Members of the Department's Academic Staff and a Students' Union Representative.

THE PEDAGOGICAL TRAINING PROGRAMME

It is a programme of a one-year duration, which leads to the award of a "Certificate of Pedagogical and Teaching Competence". The programme is tailored to meet the needs of prospective teachers with degrees from a wide range of higher education tech/voc disciplines and specializations.

Admission to the pedagogical training programme is made by means of a selection process of individual candidates, which is based on strictly pre-set criteria. These criteria include the degree grade, other degrees apart from the one submitted for consideration, possible postgraduate degrees, certified knowledge of foreign languages, certified competence in computer skills, and documented professional and teaching experience.

The programme integrates theoretical instruction and laboratory work, is supplemented by the Teaching Practice Sessions, and is supported by a variety of extra-curricular on-campus and off-campus activities.

1-Year Pedagogical Training Programme

PROGRAMMES OF FURTHER TRAINING OR SPECIALIZATION

These are programmes of a duration of up to two-semesters and are intended for qualified or prospective teachers. Those that have successfully completed the programmes, are awarded a "Certificate of Further Training" or "Specialization Training", accordingly.

JOINT POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

ASPETE's General Department of Education is directly involved in the planning and implementation of the following joint postgraduate programmes:

 A) A joint postgraduate programme in cooperation with the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (http://www.uoa.gr) (School of Philosophy, Faculty of Philosophy, Education and Psychology, Department of Education) in "Subject Didactics and New Technologies" (http://dimente.ppp.uoa.gr).

 B) A joint postgraduate programme, "M.A. in Education", in cooperation with Roehampton University, London (http://www.roehampton.ac.uk)
